Why Damper Replacement? Without a properly functioning damper, you are paying for heat that is being drafted up and out your chimney…
Your fireplace most likely was built with a damper plate located right above the firebox and is opened prior to having a fire.
The function of the damper is to prevent the loss of heat through the chimney when the fireplace is not in use. Due to the location of this damper, the plate and the frame tend to warp from the heat of the fire which is a common cause for damper replacement.
Once warping occurs, the damper no longer stops the heat from escaping. Another common problem with these dampers is that they rust from rain coming down the chimney, water coming through the masonry, or condensation. Rusted dampers can be difficult to operate or can allow heat to escape through rust holes. Even if this damper is in perfect condition, the metal on metal seal still leaks heat up the flue!
The solution for people with nonfunctional dampers, or for people who don’t want to waste heat is a top-mounted damper.
Top-mounted dampers fit on top of a chimney like a chimney cap and have a cable that runs down the flue and attaches to a handle. These are easier to work than most throat dampers.
They have a built in gasket, so when they close they close 100% keeping your heat in the house. The dampers that we sell are completely constructed of stainless steel and have screening to prevent animal entry in the “open” position (many inferior top-mounted dampers are constructed of aluminum and lack the screen). Just like our chimney caps, our dampers are backed by a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty.
