You get what you pay for. How many times have you heard that in your life? You likely heard it when you were planning to buy an older vehicle for a few hundred dollars, or a discount laptop from some street side vendor. We all go through the disappointment of purchasing something cheap when we think it’s just inexpensive; there’s a big difference in those words regardless of what you’re buying. Cheap chimney cleaning services are not always as good as they seem. Let’s go over some potential issues you may run into if you settle for cheap over inexpensive.

Cheap vs. Inexpensive

Don’t get me wrong, finding a good deal on chimney services is pretty incredible, but cheap service isn’t worth the money regardless of how much you paid. When you hire a chimney sweep, you expect a specific job to be done. You anticipate seeing a report with potential issues, and the results of a clean chimney. But if you purchase cheap service from someone without the proper tools or training, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Any regular Joe off the street can design a t-shirt with his name on it, put a sticker on the truck, and call himself a chimney sweep. He can pay to register his business name and start inspecting and cleaning chimneys any time. Unfortunately, unless he is CSIA (Chimney Safety Institute of America) certified, it’s very likely that he doesn’t have the training necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.

That isn’t how we do things here at Lou Curley’s Chimney Service. My brother and I are each CSIA Certified and CDET (Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician) certified. We participate in ongoing education for our field because this is our job, it’s what we do. We feel that we should put everything into our profession in order to be trustworthy and help you make sure your home, chimney, fireplace, and dryer are safe for use by your household.

So, that being said, the difference between cheap and inexpensive lies within how well the job is done for the price paid. A half-done job or a shoddy chimney cleaning that leaves debris in the chimney is just cheap regardless of price.

Your home and your chimney deserve the best. Lou Curley’s Chimney Service is located in Drexel Hill and we provide all types of chimney services throughout the Main Line.
