Edgmont Township, also called Edgemont Township, is a Second Class Township that spans less than 10 square miles. It is home to about 4,000 residents and is, like many other places along the Main Line, full of history and culture. The current socioeconomic range in Edgmont Township is quite wide and encompasses many high-income neighborhoods as well as several upscale, posh neighborhoods.
Historic Edgmont Township
Edgmont was incorporated as a township in 1687 when the Bakers emigrated to Pennsylvania.
Historian Jane Levis Carter wrote a book titled Edgmont, the Story of a Township, in which she describes how Native Americans occupied certain areas of Pennsylvania. She also explains how Edgmont’s earliest settlers lived near Middletown Road where passage across the river was easier.
